TSI Scores and what they mean:

Some of you may have questions about your student's scores on the TSI. Here is the information Lone Star gave us about scores needed for dual credit classes:

For upcoming Juniors wanting to take the US History courses, Sociology, Psychology, Theater Arts:

In both Reading and Writing & the essay:
Reading: a 351 or higher
Writing: a 363 and a 4 on the Essay. It also says if they made a 5 or higher on the essay, they will have met the Writing requirements.

The Math score doesn't count toward these particular courses.

If they want to take the College Algebra, the Math score needs to be at least a 350.

Upcoming Seniors who are wanting to take the English and/or Government, Psychology or Sociology:

The TSI is a state-required assessment that students must take in order to qualify to take college level courses. This test is given free to students who are taking dual credit. However, if a student does not qualify and wishes to retake a portion of the exam, he or she may go to the Conroe Lone Star Testing Center and retake that exam, but it will cost $10 per subject area. It will be up to the student and his or her family to set up a time, provide transportation and pay for these additional tests. Below is a link for more information regarding the testing hours and phone numbers. After you click this link, scroll down to where it says "Hours of Operation" and then "LSC Conroe Center":

*****A note for returning Lone Star dual credit students: if you are an upcoming Senior and wish to take the dual credit Economics class next year, your Math TSI score will need to meet a certain standard. Just because you qualified for US History does not automatically make you eligible for Economics. Please come see Mrs. Picket about your scores.

PLEASE NOTE: Only the upcoming Juniors and Seniors will be allowed to take dual credit classes. Students are only allowed to take two dual credit classes per semester, unless they receive special permission from Lone Star College. Text books are not provided and must be purchased by student online or through a college bookstore. For classes being taken in the fall, this can be done over the summer or even in early fall.

Below is a useful link to Lone Star's Dual Credit webpage that gives an overview as well as more information on placement testing and their rules for student eligibility.
