HISD serves FREE breakfast and lunch at 3 of our campuses during the summer months to all children ages 1-18. This summer those regular feeding sites will be Stewart Elementary, Huntsville Intermediate and Huntsville High School cafeterias. We also deliver FREE lunches during the summer with our Green Hornet Meal Bus traveling to several locations during the summer months! To help educate the community and neighborhoods surrounding our meal bus stops, we have planned several Green Hornet Block Parties!
Our first Block party is set for Monday March 27 at the Huntsville Family YMCA on Old Houston Road. From 5:30 to 6:30 our Green Hornet meal bus will be serving free hotdogs and sharing information with families who live in and around the YMCA location and Stewart Elementary campus. The YMCA site is one of our Green Hornet Bus stops. The bus will be delivering free meals to students at the YMCA as well as any child in the neighborhood who can come to that site. We don’t know the specific route and times of the bus for summer feeding but still want families in the area and those whose children attend Stewart and YMCA to know about the bus stop, or service, and the plans for summer. It’s sure to be a good time so we invite everyone in the neighborhood with children or with grandchildren that will be visiting over the summer months to join us next Monday @ 5:30 at the YMCA.
Then be looking for the next Block Parties to be at the following locations:
University Heights Baptist Church on April 10,
Boys & Girls Club on MLK on April 13,
Riverside Baptist Church on April 17, and
Cogan’s Grove subdivision off of FM 1696 on April 24.
Again we will be serving free hotdogs and information from the Green Hornet Bus in hopes of informing people who live in and around those bus stop feeding sites about the summer program! If you have questions or need more information feel free to contact 435-6300 and we will be glad to share more with you!
